In the past six months, HBIS Serbia has developed a monitoring plan and submitted a request for a permit to release greenhouse gases to the Ministry of Environmental Protection, in accordance with the Climate Change Act that came into force in 2021.

Executive Director of Operations at HBIS Serbia Vladan Mihailović, stated on RTS that, given the disruptions in the global, especially European metal market, steel production at HBIS Serbia is slightly over 1.1 million tons of cast slabs. However, Blast Furnace No. 1 was idled in mid-2023.

The ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Serbia, H.E. Chen Bo, together with members of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with China of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia have visited company HBIS Serbia on May 10. The numerous group of Parliamentarians and Chinese Embassy officials was joined by the Mayor of Smederevo Jovan Beč. The guests accompanied by HBIS Serbia company management headed by the managing director Sihai Song toured the New Sinter Line, where its features were presented in detail.

HBIS GROUP Serbia donated ten computers to the elementary school “Dositej Obradović” in Vranovo for an IT cabinet. The donation was presented on April 20 by Zhao Kaixing, the company’s Executive Director for Engineering and Technological Support. With this donation, HBIS Serbia provides support to an important educational process, said Zhao, and it enabled the students of the school in Vranovo to learn how to work with computers and digital education.

In HBIS GROUP Serbia, a meeting was held on April 10, where the management of the Environmental Protection Department and Sinter Plant presented the results of the project “Introduction of new PLC for data processing from MEAC system on continuous dust meters of the New Sinter Line”. The representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which supported the installation of light and sound alarms on three emitters on the New Sinter Line, as part of the project “EU or Green Agenda in Serbia”, as well as representatives of the local community – the City of Smederevo and the local communities of Radinac, Vranovo and Ralja attended the meeting.

During December 2022, the company HBIS SERBIA opened a competition for awarding SCHOLARSHIPS to students of the I, II, III and IV grades of the Smederevo Technical School, attending the following courses: electrical power technician, electrician, locksmith-welder and internal transport operator. The main goal of this company project is attracting young people long-term, with the desire to provide them with support during their high school education.

At the award ceremony regarding the new green transition solutions, organized by UNDP in partnership with the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, on February 20, 2023 in Belgrade, awards were presented to HBIS Serbia and other companies that proposed the best solutions for green transformation of Serbian economy, addressing the innovation challenges within the project “EU Green Agenda in Serbia”. The award was accepted by Zhao Kaixing on behalf of the company.

On Wednesday, January 25, the Ambassador of PR China in Serbia, H.E. Chen Bo visited HBIS Group Smederevo as part of the Chinese New Year celebration program in this city – the Caravan of Friendship on the Silk Road. Accompanied by the director of HBIS Serbia, Song Sihai, Ambassador Chen visited new, modern, automated facilities that save energy and natural gas and achieve an appropriate level of environmental protection.

On August 3, 2022, HBIS GROUP Serbia obtained the Integrated Permit for the location in Smederevo. The Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia issued a Notice of Decision for the operator HBIS GROUP Serbia Iron & Steel d.o.o. Belgrade, Smederevo branch, for the operation of the entire plant and the performance of production and iron, steel and ferroalloys processing activities.

Director of Technical Affairs of the HBIS Serbia steel plant Zhao Kaixing and Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Srdjan Lalic, signed a Donation Contract today, by which the Agency received an automatic station for measuring of air quality, located in Radinac near the steel plant.

Company HBIS GROUP Serbia plans to restart its blast furnace No.1 in Smederevo on August 16, 2021. This blast furnace was shut down on July 5, 2020 due to pandemic of coronavirus, and market situation that prevailed at that time.

On March 3, 2020, an exhibition of sculptures done in metal was opened at the Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade, organized together by HBIS Serbia and the Faculty of Fine Arts. The exhibition of 11 sculptures from the HBisART project will be open until March 18th.
