HBIS SERBIA PRESENTED A SCIENTIFIC PAPER AT THE INTERNATIONAL MINERAL PROCESSING AND RECYCLING CONFERENCE
Friday, May 30, 2025
A team of experts from HBIS Serbia – Sara Živojinović, an Independent Technologist for Quality of Iron Process Parameters and Blast Furnace Technology, Živko Đorović, Technologist at the Sinter Line and Miloš Vuleta, Deputy Head for Iron and Scrap Preparation at the Steel Shop – participated in the XVI International Mineral Processing and Recycling Conference, which was held in Belgrade from 28 to 30th of May 2025.
At this important scientific conference, a group work on the topic “Optimization recycling in iron and steel production: Utilization of by-products for efficiency and sustainability” was presented.
“The goal of presenting our work was to show that HBIS Serbia is an environmentally conscious company that strategically manages its own by-products. The focus is on steel slag, which is partially returned to the production process – in the Sinter Plant, Blast Furnace and Steel Shop – while part is being sold, and the rest is safely disposed of in order to avoid environmental pollution,” said Miloš Vuleta.
This practice reduces the consumption of electricity, the amount of waste too and improves the circularity of materials in production. In addition, significant savings are being achieved and the price of the finished product reduces.
The participation of HBIS Serbia at the conference was an opportunity to present innovations and good practices in the field of raw material processing, recycling and sustainable production, as well as to exchange knowledge with experts from the country and the world.
On the last day of the conference, a visit to the facilities of HBIS Serbia in Smederevo was organized, which gave the participants the opportunity to familiarize themselves with examples of successful implementation of sustainable industrial solutions in the practice.
