At the third "Circular Round Table" conference, organized by UNDP and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia, Darko Đorđević, director of the Blast Furnace plant at HBIS Serbia, presented the results of the latest project focused on environmental protection and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
"The coke saving project, carried out at the BF facility, represents a significant step towards realizing the strategy of green steel production and sustainable development. It should be emphasized that this project was implemented without additional investments, but solely thanks to the knowledge of our employees and internal resources. HBIS Serbia shows a continuous commitment to modernization and innovation. "Thanks to the optimization of the procurement of raw materials, the improvement of sieving of materials and the control of technological parameters, coke consumption at the Blast Furnace was reduced by 2.26 kg per ton of iron, which reduced CO2 emissions in 2024 by as much as 5,000 tons compared to the previous year," he pointed out. Djordjevic.
In addition to significant environmental benefits, this project also contributes to increasing process efficiency and strengthening partnerships with the suppliers, along with the adoption of innovative solutions and engineering measures.
"HBIS Serbia will continue to invest in green technologies in the second round of large investments. Through modernization, our goal is to return waste energy from our processes back to production. The projects at the Steel Mill, New Power Plant, the modernization of the dedusting system, are only part of the long-term mission to produce steel with a reduced impact on the environment", concluded Darko Đorđević.
