MASSIVE ELECTRICITY SAVINGS OVER THE NEXT 25 YEARS

Representatives of HBIS Serbia and Minth JG – IBS Energy have signed a contract for the construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant for our company, which is expected to bring substantial electricity savings over the next 25 years.
At the signing ceremony, Milovan Tasić, General Manager for Engineering and Investments, stated that solar panels would be installed in two major locations: on the rooftops of certain production facilities and on HBIS-owned land outside the factory premises.

“The rooftops within the factory include those of the Cold Rolling Mill, Hot Stripped Mill, Shears of HSM, and Continuous Casting Plant, while the external areas we plan to use include land around the Danube pumping station, the technological water channel, and the Lipe pumping station. This is a highly cost-effective project,” Tasić explained. He added that over the next 25 years—the duration of the contract—the steel plant will receive electricity not only from EPS, but also from the solar power plant, with varying discounts depending on the delivery period. The average discount over the entire supply period is expected to be around 65 percent.
Zhao Kaixing, Chief Technical Officer, emphasized that photovoltaic energy is a key part of the company’s agenda for green energy and low carbon emissions — an area that has been a priority for many years. He also announced that HBIS Serbia will establish a dedicated team to ensure successful implementation of the project and will continue to work on the development and promotion of green energy.
Wei Wenfeng, General Director of Minth JG – IBS Energy, noted that this is an environmentally beneficial project that is important not only for both parties involved but also for the local and broader community.
“The annual savings you will achieve through this project are equivalent to planting three million trees—that’s the extent to which this project will help clean the environment. So this will not only be your success, but also ours, and a success for the Republic of Serbia as well,” said Wei.
During the signing ceremony, it was also emphasized that the project will have broader significance. Given the current gaps in the national regulatory framework regarding active consumers, the positive experiences gained during the implementation of this project are expected to contribute to the development of a series of regulations and legislative amendments in the energy sector, particularly those related to solar energy.
